HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ― None of the bulls set for action at the Cooper Tires Invitational in Hollywood, Fla., will be at the World Finals. The World Finals bull check is in less than a week from the end of this event and the travel logistics won't allow bulls that are scheduled for the Finals to travel to Florida.
This creates an interesting situation for the riders. With no Bushwacker or Asteroid, or other high-end bulls, the overall difficulty of the bulls here are a bit lower than at other events. Many riders should collect points here, and some of those riders desperately need them.
PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert notes that while the overall difficulty of the bull pen here is down without the best bulls, this is still a tough pen.
"The 15/15 round will have a bunch of bulls that nearly made the Finals, and they're probably good enough," said Lambert. "We take 100 bulls to the Finals, and there are probably 100 more that are good enough. Some of these have been to the Finals before, and some were on this year's Finals list right up till the last day."
Joao Ricardo Vieira will face the Monster Energy Money Bull TK500 in the 15/15 Bucking Battle this week, and he's got a great chance to bring home $120,000 or more because he matches up well with this particular bull.

"I'll be very surprised if he doesn't win the bonus this week," Lambert said. "But, that is a pretty good bull. He had a couple of off days, but he was really back this past weekend. Any bull that goes to the left fits Vieira, and this one does go to the left, but at four or five seconds he will go back to the right. That's the only chance I think he has of bucking Vieira off."
For the first time in recent memory, Lambert doesn't have any bulls designated for Sunday's short go. At regular season Built Ford Tough Series events, some bulls are designated for and only appear in the short round. At this event, the bull pens will be set much like they were in the early days of the PBR.
"This is a three-day event, and every bull here will buck once in the first two days," said Lambert. I'm going to wait until Saturday night after the performance to set the third round and the championship round bulls. When the PBR started, just about every short-round bull also went in the first round, so they would be out twice in each event. We don't do that so much anymore, but this event will be set up that way."
"The long rounds will be pretty much what we're used to seeing week in and week out," Lambert continued. "The short round and the 15/15 round is where the bulls will be just a little easier than what we have at most Built Ford Tough Series events. I think it will be fun, and it will be a fun warm up for the World Finals."
