NASHVILLE, Tenn. ― When the Jack Daniel's Invitational gets underway in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, one bull will be looking to start a new winning streak.
Bushwacker had bucked off 56 straight riders before J.B. Mauney rode him for 95.25 points in Tulsa, Okla., in his ninth attempt at the PBR's premier bull. Mauney himself accounted for eight buckoffs during Bushwacker's streak.
PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert said he admires Mauney for his accomplishment.
"He wants to try the rank ones, and he gives an honest effort on them ― and he can ride most of them," Lambert said. "Right now, the three rankest bulls in the world are Bushwacker, Asteroid and Shepherd Hills Tested. Mauney is the only guy who's ridden any of them in the past year, and he's ridden all three of them. Those bulls have all slammed him pretty hard before, but he'll still take them."

Lambert noted that Mauney picking Bushwacker in the draft is an example of what the draft was put in place for.
"We want to see guys step up and pick the bull that can give them the event win," said Lambert. "Bushwacker's been in draft rounds many times, and lots of different guys have picked him. When J.B. picks him, he means to win the event. Brendon Clark had the first pick, and he chose Showboat ― one of the best picks in the short round. You can't fault Brendon for choosing that bull ― he's a great bull. But, when J.B. picked Bushwacker right behind him, it came down to whether or not J.B would ride him. Jory Markiss tried to do the same by picking Asteroid, and it didn't work out for him, but that's what the draft is for ― to allow guys to step up and pick the rankest bull there and then ride him."

We'll see a lot of the same bulls in Nashville that we saw in Tulsa, with the addition of Chad Berger's herd, including Smackdown in the short round.
"Up until the very last event, all the bulls we'll see during this part of the season are bulls that I'm looking at for the World Finals ― bulls that have a chance to make it, or in some cases have it made already," said Lambert. "A lot of them are on the bubble and we need to see them do well a time or two before we know whether they will make the final cut."
Last week's bounty bull ― BMC Bucking Bulls' S02 Sasquatch ― turfed Cody Nance in under two seconds. Sasquatch will be the bounty bull again in Nashville, and will go at the end of round one on Saturday. Sasquatch is a big beast, and he's the kind of bull who does the same thing every time, but does it well enough to beat almost every rider.
"The cool thing about that bull is that he came from a claimer event at the ABBI Finals in Las Vegas during the World Finals," said Lambert. "The ABBI Maturity was a claimer event, where every bull entered was for sale for $15,000 if anyone wanted to claim one. So, Bobby Martin claimed this bull. The Pages were hauling him and [former PBR rider] K.J. Pletcher actually owned him. The Pages had mainly hauled him to rodeos, and the bull ended up being picked for the National Finals Rodeo and Bobby Martin had to wait until after the NFR to take ownership. He's really improved since he's been coming to the Built Ford Tough Series events.
Last week's event in Tulsa featured an ABBI Classic competition in Round 1, and the bull that won it ― Bryan Smith's 96 Neon Ocean ― made an impression on everyone by hammering Agnaldo Cardozo into the arena dirt.

"Of the ABBI bulls, I haven't seen one that just stood out to me until Tulsa," said Lambert. "Every other year going back to Troubador, Bushwacker, Shepherd Hills Tested ― you would always see a great bull that you were expecting big things from. I hadn't seen one like that this year. I'd seen some good bulls, but I hadn't seen one that just stood out, and now I have seen one. He had some serious drop and when he got to the turn back Agnaldo had already slapped him more than once, but the ABBI judges got to see him really well. That bull was rank."
