BILLINGS, Mont. ― A good many of the riders who got a score last night also drew well in Round 2, and we should see a number of guys with two scores on the board after tonight.
Aaron Roy on 599 Mellow Yellow Jacket:
This is one of the best draws in this or any round for a right-handed rider. He's been ridden pretty much only by righties. Roy is 1-1 against him, with both outs coming in 2009. Mellow Yellow Jacket was a little more feisty in 2009 than he is now, and Roy was the only man to ride him in 14 outs that year. Roy has the advantage here.
Kody Lostroh on 103T Shepherd Hills Sodbuster:
They've met once before, and it didn't go well for Lostroh. This is one of the better long round bulls at this event, and he's got the moves to put any rider here on the ground. He's likely to spin both ways, and he's likely to go to the right first. Getting a score won't be easy for Lostroh, but if he gets the job done he's got a real shot to win back to back rounds.
Silvano Alves on 29U Juice Box:
Reese Cates was 86.75 points on this bull in Albuquerque, N.M., just a couple of weeks ago. Juice Box is 14-2 overall. Both rides went to right-handed riders. He hasn't faced very many top level riders, and certainly no one like Alves.
Marco Eguchi on 1044 Will James:
Eguchi is leading the World Standings right now, and every guy who's ever been on top at the end of a season can look back on a year where there were a lot of days when making great rides just seemed to come easy. They'll also remember other days when they had bulls like this one. We haven't seen Will James since last August. He's been on Cody Lambert's bubble at times, not because he's not good enough, but because he's a little bit of a wild child. He likes to leap high, and at times he's tried to do too much and would stall himself. He's never been what you would call rider-friendly, and Eguchi has a tough job to do today.
Reese Cates on 655 Cowboy Casanova:
Casanova is a right-handed rider's dream, and he's been ridden by 65 percent of the right-handed riders who've tried him. Cates should get on the board here.
Stormy Wing on 15U Electric Prune:
Wing rode this bull for 88 points back in 2011 at a rodeo in Estes Park, Colo. He's the only lefty who's made the whistle on Electric Prune. Shane Proctor was 88.75 points on him in Kansas City, Mo., back in February.
Joao Ricardo Vieira on 30W Jungle Cat:
Jungle Cat has been ridden just twice in 22 career outs, and no one on the Built Ford Tough Series has ridden him yet. He's likely to spin into Vieira's hand with good timing, and at times he can be good enough to win a round on.
J.B. Mauney on 806 Good News:
This bull is unridden, mainly because he hasn't been around that long, and he hasn't faced a lot of top level riders. He should spin into Mauney's hand and he's probably not enough bull to get Mauney on the ground.
Markus Mariluch on 93 Plummer Butt:
Mariluch has two things going for him here. Plummer Butt has been ridden a little more often by right-handed riders, and he's been ridden in his last four straight Built Ford Tough Series outs.
Douglas Duncan on 10 Carney Man:
Duncan has a pretty good shot at getting a second score on the board. Carney man has been ridden in four of his last five trips going back to September of last year. Duncan may have to do it going away from his riding hand, as Carney Man likes the right.
