PUEBLO, Colo. ― There will be one extra cowboy at the Ty Murray Invitational on March 23 in Albuquerque, N.M. MMA superstar Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is becoming a member of Back Seat Buckers, the PBR and ABBI's turnkey bull ownership program. The fighter will be on hand for the BSB Draft and Auction at Sandia Resort and the BFTS event that same weekend.
Cerrone was a bull rider before becoming a fighter. As a long-time fan of the PBR, Cerrone is embracing the opportunity to become a stock contractor and any money his bull wins will benefit his favorite charity, The Kevin Harvick Foundation.
Cerrone is one of the top lightweights in the world and fights in the UFC, the world's top MMA organization. Cerrone trains in Albuquerque and fights out of Greg Jackson's gym, where he specializes in kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He also owns the Cowboy Fight Ranch in Edgewood, N.M., where he lives and practices with like-minded fighters.
Established in 2010 by NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Kevin Harvick and his wife DeLana, the Kevin Harvick Foundation works to not only improve the quality of life, but to help underprivileged youth find and realize their dreams.
"Donald is a big fan of the PBR and he has come to PBR BFTS events before," BSB Senior Manager Alyssa Parga said. "We're excited that he has taken the step to become a stock contractor and have a bull in the Back Seat Buckers program. It's fitting, since he already has a ranch to bring the bull home to at the end of the season."
Any earnings his Back Seat Buckers bull makes will be donated to the Kevin Harvick Foundation.
"Donald is a top skilled MMA fighter and he obviously has a big heart," Parga said. "We think its great that he will be donating any prize money his animal wins to charity."
"We are thrilled to have Cowboy Cerrone as our newest ABBI stock contractor," said ABBI VP Russ Gant. "As a professional athlete himself, he really understands and appreciates the skills a great bucking bull must have to be a champion. We are all looking forward to seeing which bull he drafts at the Back Seat Buckers Auction at Sandia Resort."
Back Seat Buckers is the PBR and ABBI's turnkey bull ownership program. Animals compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of the season. There are still a few spots available. Call Alyssa at 719-242-2747 or visit BackSeatBuckers.com to learn more.
