Bushwacker three points short of perfect

02.18.13 - Press Releases

Bushwacker three points short of perfect

The bulls dominated on Sunday, with Bushwacker showing why he's one of the world's best. Fabiano Vieira claimed the event title, and Shane Proctor held onto a slim lead over Silvano Alves in the world standings.

By PBR

ST. LOUIS - Only two outs into the 2013 season, 2011 World Champion Bull Bushwacker (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) already looks ready to reclaim his title.

Judges awarded the former champ a season-high 47 points as he earned the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the highest-marked bull of the Kawasaki Invitational presented by Cooper Tires at the Scottrade Center. Missouri native Luke Snyder lasted just 1.98 seconds on Bushwacker in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round on Sunday afternoon.

"His first two trips this year," hauler Kent Cox explained, "this might be his best year yet."

Out of the four matchups Snyder and Bushwacker have had, Snyder says this is the strongest the bull has ever been on. Snyder seemed to agree with Cox on his opponent's performance, "He was all there, he earned the 47 points. Bushwacker is the man; he's the number one dog."

The year's highest-marked bull will appear at the next two BFTS event stops, Kansas City, Mo., and Arlington, Texas, to continue his domination over the riders he faces. He extended his highest buckoff rate of the bulls in action today, having been ridden only once in BFTS competition out of 39 attempts. Thiago Paguioto covered him for 89.75 points in 2009 in Las Vegas.

Earlier in the championship round, Silvano Alves had the opportunity to reclaim the lead in the overall world standings, but fell short after bucking off Stanley FatMax for the fourth time in his career. This is one of the few bulls the reigning two-time defending World Champion has had trouble with.

With that, top-ranked rider Shane Proctor was able to hold on as No. 1, despite going only 1-for-3 in St. Louis. Alves trails Proctor by only 53.96 points.

The rest of the Top 5 has changed completely, with Marco Eguchi sitting third, Ty Pozzobon in fourth and Aaron Roy in fifth place.

Kawasaki Invitational winner Fabiano Vieira had fallen outside of the top 35 after missing a couple events because of a fractured right ankle. However, the win today vaulted him back into the Top 20 where he currently ranks 18th in the world.

"I was mad when I broke my ankle, but I can be nothing but happy right now," Vieira said. "I covered three bulls and only fell off in the short go. I feel strong and I want to keep this strength. I'm finally back."

Pozzobon took second in the event with 175.25 points, Eguchi placed third with 174.25 points and Aaron Roy split fourth with Snyder at 173.75 points a piece.
