Former champ Renato Nunes wins in Colorado

L.J. Jenkins finishes second at Pueblo Invitational, moves up to No. 2 in world standings

By PBR

PUEBLO, Colo. - On the second-to-last ride of the day, 2010 Professional Bull Riders World Champion Renato Nunes rode Bucking Machine for 90 points to win the Built Ford Tough Series event at the Southwest Motors Event Center on Sunday. He finished with 349.5 points, and earned $38,852 for the win while climbing up to seventh in the Built Ford Tough Series standings.

It was the second 90-point ride in a row for Nunes on Bucking Machine (D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co. Shores Cattle Co.), having tied for first with 92 points in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle last week in Nampa, Idaho, on the same bull. Nunes won the event in Pueblo in 2010, and went on to win the PBR World Championship.

Top-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira, who was the leader after Rounds 2 and 3, bucked off Jack Daniel's After Party (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) on the final ride, securing the win for Nunes. Oliveira finished third in the event with 260 points.

The only other rider to cover four bulls, L.J. Jenkins, finished second in the average with 343.75 points, and moved up to second in the season BFTS standings. He finished third in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round with 88.25 points on Rowdy All Night (Cody Ohl/Gary & Nedra Keel/SPR Cattle).

Harve Stewart finished second in the championship round, and fifth in the average. Stewart made it into the championship round because of injuries to Robson Palermo and Guilherme Marchi.

Gray Squirrel (New Frontier Rodeo) won the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award as high-marked bull of the event with 45.25 points out of a possible 50.

The Built Ford Tough Series will now take its annual summer break before returning to action on Aug. 10-11 in Tulsa, Okla., for the Express Classic presented by WinStar World Casino.

This weekend's Pueblo Invitational served as a homecoming for the PBR, whose headquarters have been in Pueblo since 2007.

CBS Sports Network will broadcast action from Round 3 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round at 10 p.m. ET on Sunday, and at 2 a.m. ET on Monday.

Pueblo was the 19th stop of the 2012 BFTS season, which opened in January with capacity crowds at Madison Square Garden in New York. The BFTS will make 28 stops in 23 states before the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 24-28, 2012. The World Finals are where the PBR World Champion will be crowned and awarded the coveted championship buckle and a $1 million bonus. The richest bull riding event in the world, the World Finals has a total purse of more than $2 million.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network, NBC, NBC Sports Network, and YouTube. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
