Jenkins wins in Kansas City

Mauney moves back into first in world standings, but may be sidelined for six weeks

By PBR

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second day in a row, L.J. Jenkins reached 8 seconds on the last ride of the day, scoring 91.5 points on RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) to win the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series Kansas City Invitational at the Sprint Center.

His ride topped the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, and was the high-marked ride of the weekend. He bucked off the same bull on the final ride a week ago in the championship round, costing him the win at Albuquerque, N.M.

Jenkins finished with 268.75 points and earned $43,650 while moving from seventh to fifth in the season standings. Fabiano Vieira was second in Kansas City, with 260.25 points, while Marco Eguche and Douglas Duncan tied for third with 176.25 points. Stormy Wing was fifth with 174.5 points.

Vieira finished third in the championship round with 85 points on BigTexTrailers.com (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls). Matt Bohon of Cole Camp, Mo., was second in the championship round with 86.25 points on Rango (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) to finish sixth in the average - his first Top 10 finish since 2010.

J.B. Mauney finished ninth in the average despite not competing after winning Round 1 with 90 points on Friday. Mauney had his riding hand stepped on following his ride, suffering an apparent fracture on his ring finger. Mauney will undergo X-rays, and will likely need surgery. He could be out for 4-6 weeks.

Mauney's 90-point ride, round win and ninth-place finish allowed him to move back into first place in the BFTS season standings with 5,362.5 points, 101.25 points ahead of Valdiron de Oliveira. Oliveira, who had taken over the top spot last week, finished 20th in the average in Kansas City with 84 points after riding Cheapskate (5G Farms Bucking Bulls) in Round 3.

Top-ranked and defending World Champion Bull Bushwacker (Julio Moreno/Richard Oliveira) won the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the high-marked bull of the event, earning 46.25 points (out of 50) for his buckoff of Luke Snyder in the championship round. Bushwacker extends his buckoff streak to 42 consecutive riders. Sunday was his third out of the season after missing the first eight events of the 2012 season after undergoing surgery in January. He was the highest-marked bull in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle at Albuquerque, N.M. last week with 46.5 points, and tied for the second-highest bull score with 46 points at the Dickies® Iron Cowboy III presented by WinStar World Casino on March 3 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He's been marked 47 points or higher 10 times in his career, including a career-high 48.5 points in Round 3 at the 2011 Built Ford Tough World Finals.

Duncan won Round 3 with 88.75 points on Ricochet (Boyd/Floyd/Cross E), followed by 2010 PBR World Champion Renato Nunes with 88 points on Red Hot (D&H Cattle Co./Harrison). Robson Palermo was third with 87.25 points on Silver Bullet (Double R Bucking Bulls), and 2009 PBR World Champion Kody Lostroh was fourth with 86.75 points on Slider (Plummer/Larson/McKee). Palermo and Lostroh were both unable to compete in the championship round due to injury.

The BFTS will take a week off, returning on April 14-15 for the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Super Duty at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Bull riding begins at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 14, and at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 15. Tickets begin at $10 and are on sale at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, www.Ticketmaster.com, and by telephone at (800) 745-3000. Bull riding will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

CBS Sports Network will air the action from Kansas City this Sunday at 6 p.m. ET (Please check local listings). There will be encore airings tonight at 10 p.m. ET, and on Monday at 9 p.m. ET.

Kansas City was the 13th stop of the 2012 BFTS season, which opened on Jan. 6-8 with capacity crowds at Madison Square Garden in New York. The BFTS will make 28 stops in 23 states before the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 24-28, 2012. The World Finals are where the PBR World Champion will be crowned and awarded the coveted championship buckle and a $1 million bonus. The richest bull riding event in the world, the World Finals has a total purse of more than $2 million.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network, NBC, NBC Sports Network, and YouTube. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
