PBR mourns the death of David Wisener

The well-loved bull man was killed yesterday hauling animals to Glendale. UPDATE: Funeral Monday; Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Cowboy Church.

PUEBLO, Colo. - David Wisener, who hauled and cared for the world-class bucking bulls of the Lufkin Ranch, was killed yesterday in a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 20 near Midland, Texas. He was 50.

Sgt. Travis McRee of the Department of Public Safety in Midland told the Odessa American that it was too early to tell how the accident occurred, though it left four dead.

Assistant Fire Marshal David Hickman of the Midland Fire Department said the trailer Wisener was hauling contained 10 animals, and that none were killed, though there were a few injuries.

"David was a really nice guy, who didn't have an enemy in the world," said PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert. "He's done a great job for years with Lufkin Ranch and his own bulls."

Wisener is survived by daughter Haley and her husband Cory; son Jordan; two brothers and a sister; and parents Don and Beth Wisener.

In the past two weeks, the bull riding world has suffered the losses of three of its ranchers. Howard Talley, owner of the Circle T Ranch and Rodeo Company, passed away on March 10 from cancer.

Sandra Riley of Marietta, Okla., who with her husband James owned Double R Bucking Bulls, passed away Thursday, March 8, at Mercy Health Love County Hospital in Marietta. She was a native of Pueblo, Colo., and her son Casey Willis of KC Bucking Bulls in Gainesville, Texas, is also a stock contractor. Sandra was buried with her PBR credential in hand.

Funeral services for Wisener will be held Monday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cross Timbers Cowboy Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Timbers Cowboy Church, P.O. Box 118, Lufkin, Texas 75902.
