Retiring two-time PBR World Champion wins in Atlanta

Shivers scores 90 points for record 93rd time

By PBR

ATLANTA - Scoring 90 points on Delco (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, two-time Professional Bull Riders World Champion Chris Shivers went on to win the Atlanta Invitational at the Georgia Dome on Saturday.

It was the 22nd career win for Shivers, who announced earlier in the week that this will be his final season. The 90-point ride was the 93rd of his 16-year career, which is not only the record, but 41 more than any other rider. Justin Koon also scored 90 points on T-Rex (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) to tie Shivers for first in the final round, and to finish fifth in the average.

Shivers finished with 177.75 points, a quarter-point ahead of world leader J.B. Mauney. Mauney, who tied for first place in Round 1, had a chance to win on the last ride of the night, but received only 89.5 points on RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls). Each of the Top 35 riders in the world rode in Round 1, and 18 had a qualified 8-second ride to advance to the championship round.

Marco Eguche finished third with 175 points, and Austin Meier was fourth with 174.75 points. Ryan Dirteater finished sixth with 174 points.

Mauney remains the top-ranked rider in the Built Ford Tough Series standings with 3,628.75 points, increasing his lead over No. 2 Valdiron de Oliveira to 279.5 points. Dirteater is third with 2,686.75 points, followed by Meier with 2,475.5 points and Eguche with 2,282 points.

Asteroid (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) won the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the high-marked bull of the event, earning 46.5 points after bucking off Stormy Wing in 6.11 seconds in the championship round. The runner-up for World Champion Bull in 2011 has three of the top four bull scores in 2012.

NBC Sports Network, formerly Versus, will air the action at 11:59 p.m. ET this Saturday, Feb. 18.

The BFTS will continue its Stadium Series in Houston next Saturday with the WinStar World Casino Invitational at 2 p.m. at Reliant Stadium. It will be the first time since 2001 that the BFTS has visited Houston, and the only time that it has had the honor of being part of RODEOHOUSTONâ„¢. Part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, RODEOHOUSTONâ„¢ is the largest and richest rodeo in the world, scheduled to pay $2 million in 2012. It is also an attendance leader, with more than 1 million fans annually, including more than 1.2 million last year when the PBR sanctioned the bull riding.

Tickets begin at $15, and are available at www.Ticketmaster.com, and by telephone at (800) 745-3000. Each ticket includes general admission ticket for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.

The four-week stadium tour visits Arlington, Texas, on March 3 for the Dickies® Iron Cowboy III presented by WinStar World Casino at Cowboys Stadium, and concludes March 10 at Ford Field in Detroit.

It will be the third straight year that Arlington has hosted the unique bracket event. The winner will earn $50,000 with the opportunity to earn an additional $50,000 if he rides a bonus bull. Arlington will also feature a one-hour pre-event concert by award-winning singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley.

Tickets begin at $15, and include the concert at 7 p.m. and the PBR Built Ford Tough Series event at 8 p.m. Passes to watch the concert from the dirt in front of the stage can be purchased for an additional $25. Tickets are available at the Cowboys Stadium box office, www.ticketmaster.com and by telephone at (800) 745-3000.

It is the first time in history that the BFTS has traveled to Detroit, which will be the Last Cowboy Standing format, an elimination event that continues until only one rider reaches 8 seconds. Big & Rich with special guest Cowboy Troy will perform a one-hour pre-event concert beginning at 8 p.m.

Tickets begin at $10, and include the concert at 8 p.m. and the PBR Built Ford Tough Series event at 9 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Ford Field box office, www.ticketmaster.com and by telephone at (800) 745-3000. The PBR and Ford are offering a limited number of Built Ford Tough All aXXess passes for $200. In addition to providing the best seats for the bull riding, the passes allow the bearers to go onto the dirt before the event, allowing them to meet PBR riders to get autographs and photographs.

Atlanta was the seventh of 28 stops on the 2012 BFTS schedule, which opened on Jan. 6-8 with capacity crowds at Madison Square Garden in New York. The BFTS will make 28 stops in 23 states before the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 24-28. The World Finals are where the PBR World Champion will be crowned and awarded the coveted championship buckle and a $1 million bonus. The richest bull riding event in the world, the World Finals has a total purse of more than $2 million.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network, NBC, NBC Sports Network, and YouTube. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
