By PBR

Rookie Silvano Alves of Pilar do Sul, Brazil, rode Unabomber (Robinson/Eno/Kubinchak) for 90.25 points on Sunday to finish first in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and earn his third Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series win of the season at the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Alves rode all four bulls for 348.5 points, and earned $29,426 for the win. He has competed in only 14 events, but has earned $179,480, and is the favorite to capture Rookie of the Year, presented to the bull rider who earns the most money during his first season on the Built Ford Tough Series.

Wiley Petersen of Fort Hall, Idaho, also rode four bulls and finished second with 336 points, followed by top-ranked Austin Meier of Kinta, Okla., with 262.75 points, and fifth-ranked Ryan McConnel of Coalgate, Okla., with 262 points.

Meier increased his lead in the BFTS season race to 706.75 points over J.B. Mauney of Mooresville, N.C. and to 1,309.5 points over third-ranked Renato Nunes. The regular season concludes with the Cooper Tire Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 9-10, followed by the last Final Five Showdown of the year outdoors in New York City’s Times Square on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.

The 2010 PBR season has been the sport’s most competitive ever with the first 29 events producing 20 different winners. Meier has the most wins with five, while Alves and Nunes are tied for second with three. Mauney and fourth-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira of Aparecida de Goiania, Brazil, each have two wins. Seven of the Top 10 riders have an event win and 13 of the Top 20 have a victory.
