Alves claims PBR Rookie of the Year

Bones wins World Champion Bull, Mikel Moreno Award

By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders announced a series of postseason awards at the conclusion of the 2010 Built Ford Tough World Finals, which welcomed more than 71,000 fans to the Thomas & Mack Center during its five-day run.

The 2010 Rookie of the Year winner is Silvano Alves of Pilar do Sul, Brazil. After helping Brazil win the World Cup in April, Alves joined the nationally-televised Built Ford Tough Series. He won his first event in Nampa, Idaho, and went on to post victories in Memphis, Tenn., and Uncasville, Conn., while taking home $319,980.

Bones (Tom Teague Bucking Bulls LLC) captured his second World Champion Bull title. He also won the Mikel Moreno Bull of the World Finals for having the highest cumulative bull score during the Finals, 92.5 points. Bones, who also won both awards in 2008, bucked off J.B. Mauney, of Mooresville, N.C., in 4.0 seconds in Round 2, earning a score of 45.25 points. He then dispatched 2004 World Champion Guilherme Marchi in 2.0 seconds in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round on Sunday, earning a score of 47.25 points.

The recipient of the Lane Frost/Brent Thurman Award, which is awarded to the rider with the highest-marked ride at the Finals, is Valdiron de Oliveira of Aparecida de Goiania, Brazil. Oliveira scored 91.5 points on Spit Fire (Boyd/Floyd Bull Company) to win Round 2 en route to a fourth-place finish in the season standings.

For the third straight season, Aaron Roy of Asquith, Saskatchewan, was named the recipient of the Glen Keeley Award, which is presented to the Canadian bull rider who earns the most money during the season. Roy earned $117,098, and has earned almost $500,000 in his career.

The 2011 PBR season will open in New York, Jan. 7-9, with the Madison Square Garden Invitational, which had three sold-out performances in a row in 2010. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $10, and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. For the entire 2011 schedule, go to www.pbr.com.
