Australian Brendon Clark celebrated his birthday weekend with an event win at the Charlottesville Invitational brought to you locally by Troy-Bilt. It was a rough start to the weekend all around, with seven reported injuries in Round 1 and only five qualifying rides in Round 2. Clark was the only rider to cover all three of his bulls. Clark tied for first in Round 1, and then posted a low-scoring 72.25-point ride on Ramble On (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) in Round 2. During the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, he stayed on RMEF Bugle (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 88.75 points, solidifying his event win. Clark took home a total of $28,368 and 779.5 points.
Finishing the weekend in second was 2009 World Champion Kody Lostroh. After tying Clark and Cody Nance for first in Round 1, Lostroh won the Built Ford Tough Championship Round with an 89.25-point ride on I’m Back (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) and was first in the event average until Clark made the buzzer on his final bull. Third place at the Charlottesville Invitational brought to you locally by Troy-Bilt went to Ben Jones, who tied for fourth place in Round 1, then rode Deja Blue (Jeff Robinson/Cappello/Teague) for 89 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. Jones also spent some time on top of the Shark Cage for leading the average before Lostroh and Clark jumped ahead of him in the Championship Round.
Closing out the top five were Brazilians Valdiron de Oliveira and Silvano Alves. Oliveira finished fourth overall by tying for 10th place in Round 1, then staying on Uncle Buck (Jeff Robinson/Cappello/Teague) during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. Alves also put points on the board in Round 1, before riding Rippin Wrangler (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Dallas Schatz) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. Both Brazilians received 88.25 points for their final ride of the weekend.
Season To Date
The 2010 PBR season has been the sport’s most competitive season ever. The first 27 events of the 2010 Built Ford Tough Series have produced 20 different winners. In addition, there are seven riders in the Top 10 with an event win and 13 riders in the Top 20 with an event win. With only two events left before the 2010 Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, two-time reserve champion J.B. Mauney is only 64 points behind current No. 1 in the World standings, Austin Meier. This would be the first world title for both athletes.
