Ben Jones wins his first event of 2010 season

PBR reaches $100 Million in prize money

By PBR

PBR veteran Ben Jones (Sunset, Texas) claimed the Jack Daniel’s Invitational event title after an impressive weekend in Nashville. Jones finished second in Round 2, riding Maverick (Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo) for 87.25 points, and stayed on Buffalo Hump (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 90.25 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. This weekend he takes home $45,710 and his first win of the 2010 season. Jones is currently ranked 22nd in the World Standings.

The victory concluded a historic weekend as the PBR surpassed the $100 million in prize money awarded. In the 18-year history of the organization, there have been 20 riders who have earned over $1 million each and another five are less than $100,000 from the mark. The PBR has had 20 or more riders earn over $100,000 each of the past five years and the PBR World Finals has the largest single payout of any bull riding event on the planet.

Second place in the event went to Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.), who also remains second in the World Standings. Meier, who split 12th and 13th place with Beau Hill (West Glacier, Mont.) in Round 2, stayed on Heavy Hitter (Hebert Bucking Bulls & Clay Taylor) for 82 points. He also received the highest scored ride of the event in the Championship Round, with 90.75 points on Super Duty (D&H Cattle Company/Linda Hance).

In the overall standings, third place went to Douglas Duncan (Alvin, Texas) after an impressive ride in the Championship Round on Mac-Nett’s Pinball Wizard (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 90.5 points. Fourth overall went to former World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas), scoring his best ride of the weekend in the Championship Round – 89.5 points on Ruty Zipper (Jeff Robinson/Cappello/Teague). Rounding out the top five in the overall event standings was fan favorite J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.). Mauney stayed on Skyhawk (Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo) for 86.5 points in the second round, but wasn’t able to hang on in the Championship Round.

Renato Nunes (Buritama, SP, Brazil) continues to hold his lead in the Built Ford Tough Series standings with 8,828.75 points, closely followed by Meier with 7,854 points. Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) didn’t move in the standings and continues to be ranked third in the world with 6,948 points, while Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) trails him in fourth place at 6,571.75 points. Mauney moved up in the standings and is now currently ranked fifth in the World with 6,466.75 points.

The BFTS heads to Memphis, Tenn., in next weekend for the Memphis Invitational at the FedExForum on August 20-21. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $10 and can be purchased at www.Ticketmaster.com or by telephone at (800) 745-3000.
