By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) descended upon “The Entertainment Capital of the World,” Las Vegas, Nev., for the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.  In its 16th year, PBR is looking to crown its next World Champion who will take only take the $1 million bonus, but more importantly, will etch his name PBR history and take home the coveted gold belt buckle.  On Friday during the 1st round of the World Finals, North Carolina superstar J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) took the victory and repeated his round one win from 2008.  He topped the bull, Chester, owned by Mendell/Jaeger, and scored 89.75 points.  He added a check for $25,000 to his bank account along with valuable points to his 2009 Built Ford Tough World Standings.

"I just treat it as another bull riding event, I don't let the World Finals environment get to me," Mauney said during his winner’s circle interview.   "There's pressure, but this is so much fun...I'm doing what I love."

Hot on his heels was Colorado cowboy Josh Koschel (Greeley Colo.) who rode Bad Moon, owned by Duncan & Evans Bucking Bulls, for 89.25 points and $18,000.  Third place went to Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) after he took on Don Kish Bucking Bulls’ Little Juicy for 88.75 points and collected a check for $12,000.  Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) finished in fourth place after scoring 88.5 points on Box K Cattle’s bull, Rio Grande, and picked up a check for $10,000 while PBR veteran Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) rounded out fifth place with an 88.25 point ride on the bull, Cat Man Do, owned by #10 Bucking Bulls.  Coleman picked up a check for $5,000.

The PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals continues on Saturday, October 31 at the Thomas & Mack Center for round two of the world-class event.  The top 40 bull riders along with four international bull riders will continue to take on the world’s best bulls as they compete for the ultimate title in the sport of bull riding—the 2009 World Championship—and the $1,000,000 bonus.

The PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals airs LIVE on VERSUS on Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 5-7 and LIVE on NBC on Nov. 9.  Additionally, CBS will broadcast the last 15 rides of round three on Sunday, Nov. 1 (check local listings for all times).  Visit www.pbrnow.com to view the current broadcast schedule and consult local listings to verify all show times.
