Current World No. 1 Takes Fourth BFTS Event of the Year

Lostroh rides three of four bulls over the weekend, claiming the 2009 U.S. Border Patrol Invitational event title.

By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) invaded the BOK Center on July 17-19 for three action packed performances of bull riding with the 2009 U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Express and River Spirit Casino. The return to Oklahoma left die-hard bull riding fans in awe with outstanding performances by both the top cowboys and animal athletes of the PBR. Current world no. 1 rider Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) claimed his fourth victory of the 2009 BFTS season after totaling 265.75 points on three of four bulls, making him one of only two cowboys to ride three bulls over the weekend.  He added $38,025 to his pocket.

During the first round, Lostroh took the win with an 88.5 point ride on the bull, Splat Kat, owned by Danny Lemmons.  On Saturday at the PBR draft held at the Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow, Okla., Lostroh picked the bull, Chance, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC.  Although he was bucked off, he came back strong in round three, taking second place after riding Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls’ Mazel Tav, for 86.25 points. During the draft for Sunday’s Built Ford Tough Championship Round, Lostroh chose to ride Pearl Snap of Boyd/Floyd Bull Company.  The clock stopped at 7.9 seconds, but Lostroh pressed the Pike Electric replay button which resulted in a scored ride.  He added 91 points to his other two scores and ended the weekend with a total of 265.75 points and his fourth victory of the 2009 BFTS season.

Nebraska’s Dustin Elliott (North Platte, Neb.) who went in to the Championship Round in first place, totaled 259.25 points and earning $15,513.  Taking third place was Brazilian superstar Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) who scored 179.25 points on two bulls, including the high-marked ride of the event on the bull, Spit Fire, owned by Boyd/Floyd Bull Company, who he rode for 91.25 points in the short-go.  de Oliveira collected a check for $13,102.  Fourth place went to Georgia veteran Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) who totaled 175.5 points and $8,634 while both Zack Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) and 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) rounded out fifth and sixth places with 171 points.  Brown added $6,058 to his bank account and Marchi deposited a check for $5,575.

The race for PBR’s million dollar world title takes the prestigious BFTS tour to The Lone Star State of Texas for stop no. 24.  The top 40 bull riders in the world will invade San Antonio’s AT&T Center for three performances of non-stop action on August 1-2.  The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

INJURY REPORT:
Valdiron de Oliveira

Matt Bohon (Cole Camp, Mo.) broke his nose during the Championship Round.

Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) strained his left groin.  He is questionable for the San Antonio event.

Travis Sellers (Wentzville, Mo.) suffered a hip pointer.  He is probable for San Antonio.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:
Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus:

Due to his round two win at the Ford F-150 Invitational, Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational. Briscoe did not make the eight second whistle after taking on the bull, Chick’N Fried; therefore, stock contractors, H&D Bucking Bulls/Huff, took home the $5,000 bonus.

Due to his round win at the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational, Team Enterprise rider and world no. one Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round two.  Because Lostroh did not make the eight second whistle after taking on the bull, Chance, the stock contractor, Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, took home the $5,000 bonus.

Due to his round two victory in Tulsa, young gun Cody Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) was eligible for the bonus during round three.  He did not make the eight second whistle on the bull, Funky Music; therefore, stock contractors Boyd & Floyd/Darnell Bros. Bucking Bulls was awarded the $5,000 bonus.

As the winner of round three at the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational, Travis Sellers (Wentzville, Mo.) will be eligible for the bonus during round one at the 24th BFTS stop in San Antonio, Texas.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus:
Dustin Elliott
(North Platte, Neb.) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and did not win the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational; therefore, he did not collect the $10,000 bonus.  The bonus will grow to $15,000 at the next event in San Antonio, Texas.  The event grows by $5,000 each week if it is not claimed.  Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.

Ford F-150 Challenge:
As the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational event winner, Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) has qualified for a chance to participate as a Ford F-150 Challenge contestant at the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2009 Built Ford Tough Series event winners who qualify for the Finals.  The Ford F-150 Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win $50,000 towards the purchase of a brand-new 2009 F-150 truck.

Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:
2007 PBR World Champion bull Chicken on a Chain, owned by Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None, earned Bull of the Event honors with a score of 47 points.  This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull score.

High-Marked Ride of the Event:
Valdiron de Oliveira
(Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) recorded the high-marked ride of the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational in Tulsa, Okla., during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round after riding the bull Spit Fire, owned by Boyd/Floyd Bull Company for 91.25 points.
