Current World Number One Wins His Third Event of the Year!

Lostroh rides all four of his bulls over the weekend, claiming the 2009 Nampa Invitational event title.

By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) invaded the Idaho Center on April 3-5 for three action packed days of bull riding with the 2009 Nampa Invitational. The return to Idaho left bull riding fans in awe with outstanding performances by both the top cowboys and animal athletes of the PBR. Current world no. 1 rider Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) claimed his third victory of the 2009 BFTS season after totaling 350.75 points on four bulls, adding $38,830 to his pocket.

“I do it because I love it!” said Lostroh. “I don’t care if I am number one or 40; it’s just fun to be able to ride bulls. I take every bull one at a time.”

During the first round of competition, Lostroh scored 87.5 points on Mean Machine of Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen and placed third in the round. On Saturday, in the PBR’s draft system, Lostroh picked SoulJA Boy, owned by Priest Creek Ranch, for his match. His choice proved wise as Lostroh scored 92.5 points and claimed the second round victory. On Sunday afternoon, Lostroh was matched with Kaycee Simpson’s bull, Cowboy Joe, and scored 79.5 points. With a total score of 259.5 points on three head, Lostroh only trailed Brazilian, Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) to start the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. Only three cowboys made the eight second whistle in the Championship Round with Lostroh taking on Corey & Horst/ Western Group’s bull, North Star, for 91.25 points, securing the Nampa Invitational victory.

“He (North Star) is always a good bull,” stated Lostroh. “I have had him over the years and he always bucks hard, allowing guys to win.”

2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) thrilled the Idaho crowd after finishing second overall, totaling 349.5 points and earning $18,370.  Taking third place was Brazilian superstar Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) who scored 262.25 points and collected a check for $17,440 while Texas young gun McKennon Wimberly (Cool, Texas) finished fourth with 260 points and $7,844.  Rounding out fifth place was Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) who left Idaho with a total of 254 points and added $4,506 to his bank account.

Nampa was stop no. 5 of 9 on the 2009 PBR Bull Team Competition.  Fourteen teams have been formed, each competing for their share of a total tour purse of over $500,000 throughout the 2009 season. The team, Mandan Mafia, took first place and the $10,000 check after totaling 137.67 points, beating out second place team, Northern Exposure, who ended the event with 135 points and a second place check worth $5,000.

The race for PBR’s million dollar world title takes the prestigious BFTS tour to The Big Sky State of Montana for stop #18.  The top 40 bull riders in the world will invade Billings’ MetraPark Arena for three performances of non-stop action on April 17-19.  The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

INJURY REPORT:
Skeeter Kingsolver
(McLouth, Kan.) suffered a broken right ankle will be out of competition for 6-8 weeks.

Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil)) received a right shoulder strain and is probable for the event in Billings.

Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) suffered a sprained right hand and is questionable for the Billings event.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:
Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus:

Due to his round three win at last weekend’s Ty Murray Invitational, Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Nampa Invitational.  Because of his qualified ride on the bull, Little Bighorn, owned Priest Creek Ranch, de Oliveira was awarded the $5,000 bonus.

Due to his round one win at the Nampa Invitational, Zack Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round two.  Because he was bucked off of the bull, Carolina Cat, before the eight seconds, stock contractor, Walton & Wagoner Bucking Bulls was awarded the $5,000 bonus.

Due to his round two victory in Nampa, Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) was eligible for the bonus during round three.  Because of his qualified ride on the bull, Cowboy Joe, belonging to Kaycee Simoson, Lostroh was awarded the $5,000 bonus.

As the winner of round three at the Nampa Invitational, Cody Campbell (Summerville, Ore.) will be eligible for the bonus during round one at the 18th BFTS stop in Billings, Mont.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus:
Valdiron de Oliveira
(Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and did not win the Nampa Invitational; therefore, he did not collect the $5,000 bonus.  The bonus will grow to $10,000 at the next event in Billings, Mont.  The event grows by $5,000 each week if it is not claimed.  Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.

Ford F-150 Challenge:
As the Nampa Invitational event winner, Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) has qualified for a chance to participate as a Ford F-150 Challenge contestant at the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2009 Built Ford Tough Series event winners who qualify for the Finals.  The Ford F-150 Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win $50,000 towards the purchase of a brand-new 2009 F-150 truck.

Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:
2007 PBR World Champion bull Chicken on a Chain, owned by Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Broken N-N, earned Bull of the Event honors with a score of 47 points.  This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull score.

High-Marked Ride of the Event:
2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) recorded the high-marked ride of the Nampa Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round after riding Big Tex, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve, for 94 points.

Daisy Rookie of the Year Standings:
The 2009 Daisy Rookie of the Year race is going strong and as of the Nampa Invitational, Skeeter Kingsolver (McLouth, Kan.) continues to hold a slight lead over young Aussie Pete Farley (Kempsey, AUS).  A rider is considered a rookie in the year he debuts on the elite Built Ford Tough Series tour.  The Daisy Rookie is determined by the rider who has won the most money during the year at all PBR events including Challenger events, International events, BFTS events, and the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.
