“This weekend has been hyped up and I’ve been honest with everyone from the beginning. I treated this bull like every other bull and I expected to ride him,” Mauney stated. “I just kept my hand shut and held on. He went to the right and I thought he’d switch it up, but he didn’t and just kept on coming. It all worked out, and now I’m $20,000 richer.”
When asked about Bones, the PBR superstar said, “Bones is a strong bull, but it all worked out in my favor. It’s hard to describe exactly how it feels to ride him---he’s fast going up and slow going down.”
Tom Teague, the owner of Bones, said, “I’m really happy to see J.B. ride him--he just proved why he is the No. 1 bull rider in the world.”
As the 2009 season continues, Mauney’s impressive resume continues to grow. He surpassed the $1 million mark in career earnings at the end of the 2008 season, becoming the youngest millionaire in PBR history. The 22-year-old has won seven Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event titles including two in 2009, and has recorded nineteen 90-point rides and has maintained a 59 percent riding percentage over his four-year career.
