Texas Bull Rider Takes 2008 Rocky Boots Invitational!

By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) brought the PBR’s elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) to the Buckeye State for the second of two back-to-back stops. Columbus, Ohio played host to the Rocky Boots Invitational, stop #31 of 32 on the BFTS tour, where the world’s best bull riders competed for their chance to ride at the upcoming 2008 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals presented by Wrangler in Las Vegas. In the end, Zack Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) thrilled the Nationwide Arena crowd as he rode his way to the winner’s circle for the second time in the 2008 season by totaling 265.5 points and added $40,414 to his bank account.

“This win is good for the confidence. Winning is what we all come to do---you never know who it is going to be and I would have been just as happy if it had been any of the other 44 guys,” Brown stated. “I don’t know where this puts me in the standings, but its more money in the bank account and it will move me up going into Finals.”

In round one, Brown rode the bull, Road Hazard, owned by Rafter G Rodeo Co., for 86.75 points. In the second round, he added another 87.5 points to his total after taking on the bull, Rock Star (Diamond S Bucking Bulls) and went into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in first place on two bulls, giving him the number one pick in the draft. He chose to take on top bull, Ricky Bobby, owned by H.D. Page/Bill & Betty Morrison, and conquered him for 91.25 points, taking first place in the round. Brown became the only man to ride all three of his bulls and one of only two to cover their bull in the Championship Round.

Second and third place overall was split by Nick Landreneau (Sulphur, La.) and Dustin Elliott (North Platte, Neb.) who each scored a total of 174 points on two bulls. Landreneau pocketed a check for $11,218 while Elliott took home a check for $16,210. Fourth place went to 2008 Daisy Rookie of the Year contender Kolt Donaldson (Idabel, Okla.) who finished the weekend with 173.75 points and a check worth $5,751. Rounding out fifth place was Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) who added $4,974 to his 2008 World Standings after covering two of his bulls for 172.75 total points.

The race for PBR’s million dollar world title takes the top 45 bull riders in the world to the 32nd and final stop on the BFTS tour, the Mohegan Sun Invitational on October 17-19 in Uncasville, Conn. The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

As the round one winner of the Rocky Boots Invitational, Brian Herman (Victoria, Texas) qualified to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during the second round of competition in Columbus.
