“This has been a great bull riding so far,” commented Briscoe. “The Canadian fans have been great and the bulls were outstanding. In the Championship Round I drew Bad Medicine—a bull I had in Worcester earlier this season.”
In the first round of competition, Briscoe scored 84.25 points on Cry Baby (Corey & Horst Rodeo Co. Inc.). He was in eighth position at the start of the Championship Round. With a successful 90.5 point ride aboard Bad Medicine (Berger Bucking Bulls) he clinched the win with 174.75 points over second place Kolt Donaldson (Idabel, Okla.) who finished with 173 points.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the weekend,” said Briscoe. “I have a lot of confidence with this win and hopefully I’ll win the Built Ford Tough event, too!”
Briscoe currently holds down the seventh position in the race for the 2008 PBR World Championship—a definite contender for the coveted $1 million bonus. With three BFTS event wins under his belt during the 2008 season, Briscoe has claimed in excess of $245,000.
The final spot for the Montana Tractors Invitational being held Friday and Saturday in Edmonton went to Mark Johansen (Strathmore, AB, Canada.) He was the highest ranking Canadian rider after the dust settled and earned his chance to become one of the most elite bull riders in the world.
“I’m tickled pink,” Johansen said following the event. “I’m pretty happy to get the chance to ride the rest of the weekend here in Edmonton.”
He cinched the spot after scoring 86.25 points in the first round aboard Pee Wee (Peters & Sons Rodeo Company).
“It was an outstanding pen of bulls here tonight,” Johansen said. “All the bulls bucked great and I’m looking forward to how the bulls the rest of the weekend will buck.”
