MCBRIDE RIDES, MAUNEY AND MARCHI SLIDE IN ROUND 4 OF PBR WORLD FINALS

Brendon Clark and Wiley Petersen split top honors

By PBR

Round four of the Professional Bull Riders 2007 Built Ford Tough World Finals presented by Wrangler, was a Bull Market, where only 13 of the season’s top 45 riders successfully rode the rankest bucking bulls in the industry at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. Brendon Clark (Morpeth, Australia) aboard Evil Forces of Chad Berger / Clay Struve, and Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, ID) aboard Bad Medicine of Berger Bucking Bulls tied for top honors tonight with 90.75-point trips. Justin McBride (Elk City, OK), reclaimed his stride and finished a close third, garnering a 90-point trip aboard Sports Machine of Page / Buck / Watts.

Happily accepting the $17,500 for the first/second place split, Clark said, “Evil Forces was a little bit harder to ride tonight with his big ol’ horns swinging around, but that is to be expected. We’re riding the greatest bulls in the world. How exciting is that?”

Petersen, agreeing with Clark’s remarks stated, “Bad Medicine was an awesomely fun bull to ride.” Now tied in the event average with Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.), Petersen continued, “But, we’ve got a long way to go. It’s not nearly over yet.”

Lostroh who was the sole event leader after last weekend’s first three rounds and one of only two men to cover all of his bulls to this point, was pitted against Mean Machine of Chad Berger/Ryken/Rosen stock in tonight’s Round 4. His ride streak ended when Mean Machine tossed him. Lostroh still remains atop the leader board but now shares the status with Petersen, and he’s still determined.

“You can’t give up. You have to put getting bucked off out of your mind and prepare for the next round.”

The PBR World Championship race saw the tables turn as not only did McBride skillfully ride into third place, but J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, NC) and Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil) failed to cover their opponents, Kevin Loudamy/Greg McKeethan’s Flat Creek and Klein/Tuff’s Cochise, respectively. McBride still leads the PBR Built Ford Tough Series Points Standings, 1642.00 points over Mauney.

Don’t miss the competition as it continues tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT live on VERSUS.

Injury Report:

Jared Farley (Kempsey, AUS) – Cracked vertebrae. Doubtful for continued competition.

Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, BRAZ) – Bruised shoulder. Probable for Friday’s Round 5.

Luke Snyder (Raymore, Mo.) – Laceration to chin. Competing with injury.

Colby Yates (Fort Worth, Texas) – Left groin strain. Probable for Friday’s Round 5.

Behind the Chutes:

Enterprise Ride with the Best Bonus:

As the winner of the third round of the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, Brian Canter (Randleman, NC) was eligible for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Ride with the Best" bonus money during the fourth round of the Built Ford Tough World Finals presented by Wrangler. Canter was unsuccessful tonight aboard Roy Carter Bucking Bull’s Eddie Munster, thus the 5,000 bonus goes to the stock contractor. As the man atop the Round 4 results board, Brendon Clark (Morpeth, New South Wales, Australia) will be eligible for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Ride with the Best bonus during Round 5 of the PBR World Finals, as the back judge (tie-breaking judge) scored him higher than Wiley Petersen (Fort Hall, Idaho).

PBR World Champion Bull Race:

The second round of three in the PBR World Champion Bull race took place this evening and Chicken on a Chain (Robson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy) remains in the lead. To date the results are as follows:

1) Chicken on a Chain (Robson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy), 46.625; 2) Big Bucks (Frontier/Teague Bucking Bulls), 46.125; 3) Scene of the Crash (Frontier/Teague/Ron White), 44.625; 4) White Magic (Diamond G Rodeo’s Inc.), 41.5.

The final round of competition takes place Sunday, November 4th when the 2007 PBR World Champion Bull will be determined.

Record-tying performance:

Justin McBride's ride tonight aboard Sports Machine ties him with Guilherme Marchi for successful season rides with 54. Marchi set the record in 2006.
