The road to the PBR's 2007 Built Ford Tough World Finals presented by Wrangler is getting shorter, with just one stop remaining after the Salt Lake City event. Number one man and 2005 PBR World Champ Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) will headline the Express PBR Classic. McBride has dominated the competition this season with eight event wins and $462,586 in season earnings to date. Both are new PBR records. 2006 PBR Daisy Rookie of the Year J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, NC) sits in second place in the world standings and would like to gain some valuable points in the PBR World Championship race by winning his fourth event title of 2007 in front of Utah fans. Meanwhile Brazilian sensation Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Brazil) is on a hot streak with two consecutive event titles to his credit. Marchi has steadily gained ground on McBride and Mauney during the past several weeks and now only trails McBride by 2,533 points. Additionally, Salt Lake City fans will be treated to watching bull riding legends like three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.), as well as Utah's Tony Mendes who currently sits 37th in the world qualifier standings. Mendes is fighting to keep his spot in the top 45 in order to qualify for the PBR's 2007 Built Ford Tough World Finals presented by Wrangler being held in Las Vegas October 26-28 and November 1-4.
The format of the Express PBR Classic consists of three rounds of competition. The first two rounds feature the same 45 qualified riders randomly matched against the sport's rankest bulls. The top 15 riders based upon their total cumulative score after two rounds qualify for a final decisive round of action, which happens at the conclusion of the second performance on Saturday. The rider with the highest score on three bulls will earn the coveted Express PBR Classic event title and pivotal points towards qualifying for the PBR World Finals.
A ticket guarantees you more than two hours of bull riding action including rock & roll music, pyrotechnics and an up close and personal view of the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Tickets start at $23 and upgrade to $38, $53 and $103. Tickets are available at the E Center Box Office, smithstix.com or by phone at 801-467-8499.
