Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.), the 2005 PBR World Champion and current leader on the BFTS tour, is ahead of J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) by only 1,381 points, which could easily be made up by Mauney in the remaining events, especially with McBride side-lined due to the shoulder injury he suffered in Mexico at the Chihuahua Challenge two weeks ago. This makes the Reno Classic presented by Silver Legacy and Eldorado Hotel and Casino a pivotal event for both men. Three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is determined to win an unprecedented fourth world title and his sights are focused on making each event count.
Sitting fourth in season points behind McBride and Mauney is Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) last year's Reno event champion. After claiming his second BFTS event win of his PBR career in Reno last year, Willingham finished the 2006 BFTS season as the fourth highest ranked cowboy and he is looking to duplicate that success this season. His fourth position in standings assures him status as a strong contender in the chase for the 2007 PBR World Championship title.
The format consists of four rounds of competition. The first three rounds feature the same 45 qualified riders randomly matched against the sport's rankest bulls. The top 15 riders based upon their total cumulative score after the three rounds qualify for a final decisive round of action, which takes place at the conclusion of the third performance on Sunday, Sept. 9th. The rider with the highest score on four bulls will earn the coveted Reno Classic presented by Silver Legacy and Eldorado Hotel and Casino event title.
The PBR's Built Ford Tough Series regularly airs each Saturday and Sunday evening on VERSUS at 8 p.m. ET. However, The Reno Classic presented by Silver Legacy and Eldorado Hotel and Casino will air only on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 7 and 9 p.m. (ET). Visit your local listings for additional details.
