PBR Mexico Announces Top 5 Bull Riders to Compete in the Chihuahua Challenge

Gerardo Venegas captures top honors in Nuevo Laredo event

By PBR

This past weekend at the Plaza de Toros arena in Nuevo Laredo, TAMPS, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Mexico Tour held the 5th event of its 2007 season. Mexico’s top 32 men battled against the country’s best bucking bulls to name Gerardo Venegas of Juarez, Chihuahua the event champion. Gerardo took home $23,490 pesos for his bull riding efforts.

Additionally, this event marked the final opportunity for PBR Mexico’s bull riders to qualify for the PBR’s elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler event - the Chihuahua Challenge - which takes place in Chihuahua, CHIH on August 24-26 at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasium. PBR Mexico bull riders who were ranked in the top five as of August 11 earned the opportunity to compete at this event. With over $130,000 US in prize money available, these men could earn the valuable dollars needed to qualify for bull riding’s ultimate competition, the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Oct. 26 – Nov. 4th. The men who earned the right to ride against the world’s best in Chihuahua later this month are: Diego Proto (Saltillo, COA), Hugo Pedrero (Leon, GTO), Francisco Torres, (Leon, GTO), Herminio Orozco Gallordo (Salamanca, GTO), and Omar Guerrero (Monterrey, NL). Due to prior commitments, Orozco Gallordo turned down the opportunity which made way for Nile LeBaron of Chihuahua, CHIH to capture the 5th invitation.

In Mexico, tickets for the Chihuahua Challenge can be purchased at all Liverpool and Mix Up stores, as well as via Ticketmaster.com.mx or at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasium Box Office. U.S. residents can purchase tickets by calling call 011 (52-55) 5133-6470. The Chihuahua Challenge will air on VERSUS on Saturday, August 25th at 9:00 p.m. ET and Sunday, August 26th at 8:00 p.m.
