McBride Wins Southern Ford Dealers Invitational

By PBR

The jam-packed St. Pete Times Forum was the site of a Friday night Professional Bull Riders' (PBR) showdown as Kasey Hayes (Liberal, KS) was narrowly defeated by 2005 PBR World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, OK) for the Southern Ford Dealers Invitational event title. McBride edged Hayes by a mere quarter of a point margin to capture his second Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) event title of 2007. His winning performance can been seen when the action from Tampa, Fla. airs on VERSUS tonight at 8 p.m. (ET).

McBride's first event championship was earned at the Sacramento Classic Jan. 20 - 21. His stellar performance in Tampa propels him from third in the 2007 PBR world standings to number one, surpassing 2006 PBR Daisy Rookie of the Year sensation J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, NC) and 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, TX). McBride has earned two 90 point rides this season; he scored a 90.75 aboard Bad Company Rodeo Inc.'s Walk This Way at the Worcester Classic in January, and a 90.25 in Tampa aboard Diamond S Bucking Bulls' Smash Hit. To date McBride has ridden 12 of the 18 bulls he has attempted this season.

"I drew Smash Hit in Charlotte but he bucked me off. When I drew him again, I was determined to stay on top for the full 8 seconds," said McBride of his winning ride in Tampa's championship round. "I feel very healthy and I'm working toward another PBR World Championship."

Placing eleventh in round one action, McBride advanced to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round 4th in the bucking order. Mighty Mike White (De Kalb, Texas) held the lead with 88 points going into the championship round but was unsuccessful on his final bull of the night, Lost in Paradise owned by Boyd, Floyd and Paradise Farms. Ten men were left to challenge McBride, among them PBR young gun Kasey Hayes (Liberal, KS). Hayes' 87.25 point score aboard Robinson and Tedesco's bull Barbosa was not enough to overtake McBride; only a quarter of a point separated the two talented riders.

This weekend represents a PBR double header with two events held in the Southern States. PBR's next stop is Atlanta, Ga., for the Atlanta Classic presented by Zaxby's which will be held at the Georgia Dome tonight, Saturday, Feb. 3. The Atlanta Classic presented by Zaxby's will air in one week, on February 10th, on NBC Sports at 2:30 p.m. ET. For a complete PBR broadcast schedule please visit http://www.pbrnow.com/media/tv/.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:

Enterprise Rent-A-Car's "Ride with the Best" Match-up Bonus: As the winner of the last BFTS event, Charlotte, N.C.'s Dale Jr. PBR Clash, Silvanei Dias (Populina, SP, BZ) was eligible for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Ride with the Best" bonus money in Tampa. On Friday night, Dias was unsuccessful in his attempt against Boyd, Floyd and Paradise Farm's Vigilante, thus awarding the $5,000 bounty to the bulls' owner.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus: Mike White (De Kalb, TX) led the event going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round but did not ultimately earn the overall event title. Consequently, he did not claim the $45,000 Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus. The bonus will be worth $50,000 at the next BFTS event - The Atlanta Classic presented by Zaxby's on February 3. When the Built Ford Tough Moment of Truth Bonus is claimed the purse returns to $5,000.

Ford Super Duty Challenge: As the event winner, Justin McBride (Elk City, OK) qualified for a chance to compete at the PBR World Finals, against all other 2007 Built Ford Tough Series event winners, for a 2007 Ford Super Duty Truck. The Ford Super Duty Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2007 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win $50,000 toward a brand new Super Duty Truck courtesy of Ford.

Salem National Lease Bull of the Event: Chicken on a Chain of Robinson and Tedesco was named the Bull of the Event and as a part of Salem National Lease's exciting bonus program the bull earned $1,250. The program awards $1,250 to the top bull of the event as determined by the PBR judges' bull scores.

Cabela's World's Foremost Ride: Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla,) achieved the highest marked ride of the Southern Ford Dealers Invitational when he topped Diamond S Bucking Bulls' Smash Hit. In doing so he earned $1,000. Rocky McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) is in the lead for the Cabela's World's Foremost Ride bonus of $25,000 with his 92 point performance in New York City earlier this season on Page & Teague Bucking Bulls' Sunshine.

The rider who achieves the highest score at each BFTS regular season event during the 2007 BFTS regular season excluding the PBR World Finals receives a bonus of $1,000 for the event. The PBR athlete who achieves the highest marked qualifying ride during the entire 2007 BFTS regular season, excluding the PBR World Finals event will receive $25,000, while second and third place finishers will be awarded $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The bull rider that achieves the highest marked ride through the course of the entire 2007 PBR BFTS World Finals will earn an additional $10,000.
