Schiffner went into the championship round three points behind his fellow countryman Aaron Roy (Asquith, AB). The Alberta cowboy felt the pressure and rose to the occasion in front his family and friends with a 90 point ride aboard Big Dog owned by Braithwaite Ranches. The ride earned top honors in the round and $2,275 in prize money.
“I have to really take my hat off to Aaron Roy, it came down to him and me and he put the pressure on,” Schiffner said. “He’s a great competitor; you can expect great things from him next year.”
Getting pushed to his limits is what Schiffner really looks forward to after his many years as an accomplished bull rider, “Getting on just to get on really doesn’t get my motor going anymore,” Schiffner said, “When there’s pressure on, and you have to ride to win, that’s what I really love about bull riding.”
The event, which took place Nov. 24-26, featured 45 top ranked bull riders competing in four intense go rounds of competition. The PBR Canadian National Finals event winner is not to be confused with the PBR Canada National Champion, who is the rider who accrues the most money throughout the regular season and the Finals.
Winning the inaugural PBR Rocky Cup Canadian National Finals presented by Dickies was Brian Canter electrified the crowd covering all four of his bulls. Understandably thrilled with the event win, Brian Canter (Randleman, NC) said, “Everything in Canada is special. I really enjoyed the whole event. I was up here last year for a second place win, and it feels real good to win the event this year.”
Voted by the bull riders competing at the PBR Canadian National Finals, PBR Canada Stock Contractor of the Year was awarded to Braithwaite Ranches and PBR Canada Bull of the Year was awarded to Fine Line of B & S Livestock.
The event will air on OLN in Canada on Sunday, November 26 and Monday, November 27 at 10 p.m. (ET). Please visit http://www.tsn.ca/oln/ for a complete PBR broadcast schedule in Canada.
