The PBR has coordinated with VERSUS producer Joe Loverro and his staff to create a monitor system utilizing multiple camera angles. PBR commentators will explain the original call made by PBR officials to viewers, as well as the challenge submitted to the replay official. The replay official may request different angles and/or slow motion, as well as freeze particular frames. The replay judge will use all available technology to assess the call in question and supply his ruling.
Instant replay will be used only when a rider and/or judge requests it. To request a replay the rider will sound a horn located at either end of the arena within 30 seconds of the call in question occurring. Any rider that requests an instant replay review, but is proven incorrect in his assumption, will receive a no score and will be charged $500.
Actual scores assigned by the judges are non-reviewable. Reviewable calls include the assignment of re-rides, fouls, and the determination of qualified and non-qualified rides. While the program is in its infancy, Judging Director Cody Custer stated that it is designed with the intent of improving conditions for both the contestants and judges in the interest of taking the entire sport to the next level.
The call for an instant replay review is not limited to the judges or the affected rider. Any contestant competing in the event may sound the horn if he witnesses an infraction that he feels was missed by the event officials during the ride. He too will have 30 seconds within which to sound the horn and state his case to the instant replay judge. If he is wrong, he too is subject to a charge of $500.
