Just two regular season tour stops remain before the title of PBR Built Ford Tough World Champion is decided during the Built Ford Tough World Finals, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nev. Oct. 27 through Nov. 5, 2006.
Fans can tune in to the second performance of the U.S. Army Reserve Classic on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. EST on OLN/VERSUS. Please visit http://www.pbrnow.com/media/tv/ for the complete broadcast schedule.
Marchi’s 90.5 point score on Page, Teague and Buck’s Sports Machine in the final go round secured the victory. The duel represented a rematch between the two. Sports Machine won the match in Phoenix, Ariz. in Feb., but Marchi overcame the odds in Grand Rapids.
Marchi, who maintains a 60.26% riding average and has led the world standings since April, said “I’m very proud of myself because I’ve been riding good lately and staying very focused.”
When asked how he feels about his chances at earning the title of PBR Built Ford Tough World Champion and the million dollar bonus that goes with it, Marchi stated, “I feel great going into the World Finals and look forward to going bull for bull one at a time and winning that gold buckle.”
Marchi leads the world standings by 1,608 series points over Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.). Willingham is allowing Marchi little breathing room in the race, and finished a close second to the world standings leader in Grand Rapids.
Marchi entered the Built Ford Tough Championship round with a cumulative score of 172 points on two bulls, running a close second to new sensation and first round winner Mark Lopes (Pioneer, Calif.) at 174.5. The only thing standing between Lopes and certain victory were 15 other athletes bent on the same mission, and a fearsome pen of top-ranked PBR bucking bulls. As the number one contender, and consequently the final athlete to compete, Lopes witnessed three outstanding 90-plus point rides, among them Marchi’s. Rocky McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) stole the show during final round action, taming Chad Berger, Larry Ryken, and Winston Loe’s Palace Station Deuces Wild for 91 points.
When the dust settled, however, it was Marchi, who by virtue of his second place finish in the final round, who took the victory when a disappointed Lopes came up short against Page & Teague Bucking Bulls’ Super Duty. Achieving a cumulative score of 262.5 points in three go rounds, Marchi, 24, earned $29,639 for his consistency.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:
Mossy Oak Shoot Out: As the first round winner Lopes was eligible to compete for a $5,000 bonus in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out. Lopes was unsuccessful against Hebert Bucking Bulls’ Kid Rooster. Consequently the Mossy Oak Shoot Out increases to $10,000 for the Reading, Pa. BFTS event.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car's "Ride with the Best" Match-up Bonus: As the winner of the Greensboro, N.C. BFTS event, Rocky McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) was eligible for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Ride with the Best" bonus money in Grand Rapids. On Friday night, McDonald was successful in his attempt against Shad Smith’s Hill Country, thus claiming the $5,000 reward. On Saturday night McDonald was successful against JS Rodeo Company’s Rivet Head, and once again received the $5,000.
Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil), by way of his event win in Grand Rapids, is eligible at the Reading, Pa. event next weekend for the chance to claim the Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Ride with the Best" Match-up Bonus. If the rider covers his eligible bulls during the event, he will receive a $5,000 cash bonus for each successful ride. But, if the bulls launch the cowboy before he can make a qualified ride, the $5,000 bonus will go to that bull's stock contractor instead.
Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus: Mark Lopes (Pioneer, Calif.) led the event going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round but did not ultimately earn the overall event title. Consequently, he did not claim the $10,000 Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus, which will be $15,000 in Reading, Pa. When the Built Ford Tough Moment of Truth Bonus is claimed the purse returns to $5,000.
Bud Light Short-Go Top Qualifier Award Program: Mark Lopes (Pioneer, Calif.) was awarded the Bud Light Short-Go Top Qualifier Award of $2,500 since he was the highest advancing rider to qualify for the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.
Ford Super Duty Challenge: As the event winner, Guilherme Marchi (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil) is qualified for a chance to compete at the World Finals, against all other 2006 Built Ford Tough Series event winners, for a 2006 Ford Super Duty Truck. The Ford Super Duty Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2006 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win a brand new Super Duty Truck courtesy of Ford.
Salem National Lease Bull of the Event: Page and Teague Bucking Bulls’ Mossy Oak Mudslinger took top bull honors of the event and as a part of Salem National Lease's exciting bonus program the bull earned $1,250. The program awards $1,250 to the top bull of the event as determined by the PBR judges.
Cabela's World's Foremost Ride: Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) overtook Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) in Phoenix for the lead in the race for the $25,000 Cabela's World's Foremost Ride bonus.
