Results of the Teague Bucking Bulls Labor Day Weekend Sale, which was held on September 2 at the Bobby & Sid Steiner Ranches in Bastrop, Texas, indicate continual growth in demand for American Bucking Bull, Inc. (ABBI) registered cattle. 126 lots changed hands for total sales of $907,100.
Said Tom Teague of the successful first year venture, "What really struck me about this particular sale is that the female consignments met with overwhelming interest. People are taking the proven genetics behind these cows very seriously and are investing in their breeding programs accordingly. I am very fortunate to have had my first sale meet with such a positive response from so many serious investors. The sale was an outstanding response to the overall growth taking place within our sport.”
Sale highlights included a pair consigned by Teague that sold to Torres Brothers Bucking Bulls of Mount Airy, N.C. for $36,500. The Kish bred cow sold with a Hotel California bull calf at her side and had been exposed to Mossy Oak Mudslinger. Teague also sold a heifer embryo for $32,000 to the Torres Brothers. The embryo is out of the cow Hargis 158, who is Neon Night’s mother, and is sired by Crossfire Hurricane. Two straws of semen from 2005 PBR World Champion Bucking Bull Big Bucks, owned in partnership by Teague and Frontier Rodeo Company, sold to Jeff Kephart of Kansas for $13,000. A special consignment from Bobby Delvechio sold for $60,000 and consisted of half interest in five coming 2-year old bucking bulls with six generations of top genetics behind them.
Another buyer of note in addition to Torres Brothers Bucking Bulls was Francis Dandy from Freot, Calif. who spent $95,000. Alex Naccarato generously donated three straws of Werewolf Snuff semen which sold for $2,400 to the Torres Brothers. Proceeds from the sale were donated to the Greg Crabtree Memorial Fund.
About ABBI
American Bucking Bull Inc. was formed in late 2003 in an effort to preserve and track the DNA records of the best bucking bred animals in the world. In addition to this goal, the ABBI also endeavored to enhance the business of raising and bucking these magnificent animals by providing a competitive format by which they could earn prize money and establish their value as buckers and sires. With two years of registration behind us, the participation in our programs has been phenomenal. Over 30,000 head of cattle are DNA verified and entered into our registry, and this year our Classic program for 3 and 4-year-old bulls consisted of 20 events held from January through September, culminating with the World Bucking Bull Classic Finals to be held in Las Vegas in October during the PBR World Finals. The total estimated purse for the ABBI finals will be in excess of $400,000, resulting in the winner's check being $150,000 dollars, easily the biggest payoff in bucking bull history. As the competitive opportunities increase, the trend toward higher value of these animals should continue. The ABBI has helped to provide one of the most fun and interesting avenues for involvement in the toughest sport on dirt, professional bull riding.
