McBride Claims First Built Ford Tough Series Title of 2006

By PBR

2005 Professional Bull Riders' (PBR) World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) reclaimed his winning form this weekend when he took command of the Fritos Invitational event title. The event, which was stop number 23 on the elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS), took place at the American Airlines Center on June 24-25. For McBride the title represents his first of the 2006 season and paid off to the tune of $45,106 in PBR bucks. McBride, 26, is the second highest ranked money earning bull rider of all time behind two time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) and boasts $2,965,087 in PBR career earnings.

The Fritos Invitational airs on Sunday, June 25 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on OLN. Please visit http://www.pbrnow.com/media/tv/ for the complete broadcast schedule.

The Fritos invitational victory represents McBride's first BFTS win since he earned an astounding and record tying six BFTS tour titles during the 2005 season. McBride's current riding percentage is 55.81% and he has achieved seven BFTS top ten finishes this season.

One by one an all star list of finals qualifiers fell victim to some of the most intimidating names in the bull business, including the unridden 2005 PBR World Champion Bull Big Bucks, owned by Frontier and Teague Bucking Bulls. Incidentally, Big Bucks upped his streak of career BFTS buck offs to 24.

Despite an anticlimactic final round performance, McBride is optimistic about the remainder of the season and plans to attend each of the six remaining regular season events, including the upcoming Tulsa Express PBR Classic. "Physically I'm in great shape, everything's good and I feel great. A win like this makes you ready for more."

McBride entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round leading the pack with a total of 174 points on two bulls as the result of solid performances in each of the two preliminary go rounds and as the final man to compete knew that the event title was his.

Current world standings leader Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, BZ) finished among the top ten, extending his lead over Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil) to 835.5 series points. Despite nagging injuries, Moraes is in relentless pursuit of an unprecedented third million dollar PBR world title, but failed to cover either of his preliminary go round draws. A strong reserve championship finish enabled Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) to overtake 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) for the number three spot.
