Edgard Oliveira suspended for 12 months for unsportsmanlike behavior
By PBR
The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Board of Directors met and chose to suspend Edgard Oliveira from PBR competition for a period of 12 months, following an incident at the Nampa Invitational powered by Oh Boy! Oberto on April 28. The suspension stems from Oliveira's reaction to being disqualified during the first round at Nampa, Idaho.
PBR Judging Director and acting back judge, Cody Custer, disqualified Oliveira for taking too long in the chute prior to his ride in round one. The PBR rule protects the bulls from becoming stressed or injured from standing in the chute for an extended period of time. The rule book states it is the judge's discretion to disqualify a contestant for this infraction.Following the disqualification, Oliveira displayed less than professional conduct toward the judges in response to the decision.
According to PBR rules, a rider can be brought before the board of directors for his actions. The board reviewed the incident and voted to suspend Oliveira from PBR competition for a period of 12 months.PBR Board Member Cody Custer was not part of the vote because he was involved with the incident.
"Other sports have let their players get out of control," said Ty Murray, President of the PBR. "We're not going tolerate that kind of behavior in professional bull riding. Right or wrong it's the official's job to make those calls and whether you agree or disagree there's no room for unsportsmanlike conduct."
