Lee Tops Cabela's Classic

Moraes Leads the PBR World Standings

By PBR

2004 Professional Bull Riders' (PBR) World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) is on a roll. Lee celebrated the third Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) event title of the 2006 season as the Cabela's Classic event champion. Lee duplicated the championship form that delivered tour titles earlier this season in both Anaheim and Fresno, Calif. The event, which took place at Kemper Arena, Mar. 10-12 consisted of four grueling rounds of action. Lee, whose career earnings total an impressive, $1,911,561, pocketed $41,744 in weekend earnings as the only man to successfully cover four bulls. The PBR airs regularly on OLN. Please visit http://www.pbrnow.com/media/tv/ for the complete broadcast schedule.

Lee performed with calculating consistency through the course of each preliminary go round. As the highest ranked athlete advancing to the 15-man Built Ford Tough Championship round, Lee faced Page and Teague Bucking Bulls' Holy Moly.

"I had Holy Moly in the short round and if I had him before I don't remember it. He went out two or three rounds to the left and turned back and was real hard to ride; other than that I don't remember much." The match up yielded 89.25 points and was enough to secure the prestigious victory.

Known for his trademark focus and determination Lee's goals are specific for the remainder of 2006, "My goal is to ride consistently and ride one bull at a time. If I accomplish that, then the ultimate goal [the PBR World title] at the end of the year materializes."

Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) set the pace early on in final round action with a sizzling 91 point effort aboard Page and Teague Bucking Bulls' Here's Your Sign. Canter's cumulative score of 258 points on three bulls locked his name atop the leader board as the bulls dominated championship round action. Lee, with a total on three bulls of 252.25 points going into the finals, had to ride his fourth bull. With skill and determination Lee delivered, propelling himself to within a mere 57 BFTS points of world standings leader Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil). Both men are fast approaching the $2 million mark in career earnings, Moraes a mere $26,132 from crossing the milestone.

Lee, 22, who is currently riding 69.05% of his bulls, etched his name in the history books as the first rider to simultaneously earn both the Built Ford Tough World Finals event title and the Built Ford Tough Million Dollar World Championship, a feat he accomplished in 2004.

Casting a pall over the event was the injury which occurred at the close of round two action when Mike White (De Kalb, Texas), the 1999 Professional Bull Rider's (PBR) Rookie of the Year broke his back during the Mossy Oak Shoot Out bonus round. White was immediately taken to Kansas University Medical Center where examinations and x-rays revealed a break in the fourth thoracic vertebra of his upper back, as well as a small portion of one of the joint surfaces of the first cervical vertebra at the top of his neck. He will be fitted with a custom brace that he will have to wear for 6-12 weeks. He will be recovering for a minimum of three months. For additional updates on White's condition, visit the PBR web site at www.pbrnow.com.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family," states PBR CEO Randy Bernard. "We will do everything possible to assist them during this time and wish him a speedy recovery."

The BFTS makes uninterrupted stops from now through the end of April, promising bull riding fans one of the most intense and grueling races in national sports to decide who will wear the million dollar PBR crown.
