Dickies National Championship Bullfighting Unveiled

By PBR

The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) is proud to announce that Dickies, the number one name in workwear, will extend its support of the Dickies DuraBullfighter program to bring fans the exhilarating new Dickies National Championship Bullfighting competitive program. The Dickies National Championship Bullfighting line up consists of a series of three events which culminate during the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, October 28-30 and November 3-6. The best bullfighters in the world will attempt to be one of the six men to qualify for the third and final leg of the series, which will take place during the first weekend of World Finals action at the luxurious Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Dickies National Championship Bullfighting qualifying events are slated for Cheyenne, Wyo., July 25-26, and Tulsa, Okla., July 29-31.

Dickies National Championship Bullfighting represents the ultimate in American freestyle bullfighting action. The competition format features athletes engaging in a 70-second freestyle bullfighting display. Bullfighters are evaluated based upon the aptitude they display in controlling and maneuvering a 2,000-pound opponent. Precision in jumping the bull, contact with the bull, and handling of the barrel are additional criteria used in critiquing each contestant's performance. The world's top bullfighters who are qualified to compete in the Dickies National Championship Bullfighting in Las Vegas will be gunning for a piece of the $20,000 in added prize money.

The professional risks associated with the job of Dickies DuraBullfighter are akin to life as a human shield; a person who sacrifices life and limb in the line of duty in order to protect PBR bull riders. The Dickies DuraBullfighters are a team of athletes who put forth the ultimate effort each night in order to protect the top 45 bull riders at every tour stop on the 31-city Built Ford Tough Series. The Dickies DuraBullfighter team consists of Joe Baumgartner, Dennis Johnson, Rob Smets, Greg Crabtree, and Frank Newsom. While professional bullfighters distract the bull, and when necessary "take the hit" upon the conclusion of a successful eight-second ride or after a buck off, Dickies National Championship Bullfighting is an extension of protection bullfighting and provides a showcase for the amazing athleticism of these arena warriors.

Over 100 million viewers tune in each year to the PBR on NBC, OLN and in Spanish on Telemundo. With over 450 hours of prime time programming annually PBR ranks among the most prolific sports on air, in addition to attracting over one million live event attendees each year with its multi-tiered event structure. The PBR's founding members and governing board of directors is comprised of celebrated bull riders of the past and present who have developed bull riding into a stand alone sport which is experiencing unprecedented growth in global popularity. The PBR is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo., and has over 600 athletes competing in more than 100 PBR sanctioned competitions.
