Few names carry as much weight in professional bull riding as Justin McBride. A two-time PBR World Champion(2005, 2007), McBride remains one of the most accomplished and influential figures in the sport’s history. Over a decade-long career, he amassed a record 32 Premier Series event wins and became the first rider to surpass $5 million in career earnings at the time.
Born in Belton, Texas, and raised in Mullen, Nebraska, McBride grew up in a rodeo family. His father rode bulls, and his early years on the ranch laid the foundation for a career defined by classic cowboy toughness. After attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on a rodeo scholarship, he turned professional at 19 and made his PBR debut in 1999. Within weeks, he captured his first event title and went on to qualify for his first PBR World Finals that same year.
From 1999 to 2008, McBride defined an era. Known for his toughness, power, and classic riding style, he won two gold buckles and set multiple league records, including eight Premier Series wins in a single season — a mark that stood unmatched for more than a decade. In 2007, he capped his career with the richest ride in PBR history at the time, earning $200,000 for a qualified ride on Scene of the Crash in Columbus, Ohio.
After retiring from competition in 2008, McBride brought his insight to the broadcast booth, serving as a PBR color commentator from 2009 through 2024. His honest, no-nonsense approach and deep understanding of the sport made him one of the most respected voices in Western sports.
In 2022, McBride returned to the chutes in a new role as head coach of the Nashville Stampede, leading the team to the inaugural PBR Teams Championship in what remains the biggest comeback win in PBR Teams Championship history. The victory earned McBride Coach of the Year honors, and today, he continues to help shape the next generation of riders with the same grit and passion that defined his own career.
Off the dirt, McBride lives in Whitesboro, Texas, with his wife, Jill, and their two children. A man of many talents, he has also built a successful career in country music, releasing two studio albums and a live record, including Don’t Let Go and Everybody Loves a Cowboy. His music continues to resonate, drawing nearly 20,000 monthly listeners to this day. Whether in the arena, on stage, or from the broadcast booth, McBride’s influence continues to shape the sport and culture of modern bull riding.
