Rookie phenom John Crimber continues dominance, wins PBR Stockton Invitational
Connor Halverson, Mateus Fabricio round out qualified rides.
STOCKTON, Calif. – At the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockton Invitational, 18-year-old John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) once again rode supreme, claiming his sixth win in less than 30 days of starting his professional career, courtesy of a perfect 2-for-2 performance.
After covering Wango Tango (Naccarato Bucking Bulls) for a round-winning 85.5 points, the budding bull riding superstar extended his ride streak to seven by topping Cherry Bomb (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) for an event-high 89.5 points.
The young gun's sixth win this season netted him a critical 136 Challenger Series points, pushing him to No. 2 in the Challenger Global standings, just 305.5 points behind Alan de Souza (Taubate, Brazil).
Conner Halverson (Gordan, Nebraska) went 1-for-2 and finished second thanks to a double-entry.
After being bucked off Boss Hog (Hawkins Bucking Bulls/Carol/B Bar Ranch) in 5.06 seconds in Round 1, the young cowboy locked in, covering Shot in the Dark (Leffew Bucking Bulls/Meza) for 84.5 points in Round 2 to catapult into second place.
The runner-up finish is Halverson’s fifth-consecutive Top-3 finish and garnered a crucial 68 Challenger Series points, pushing the Nebraskan to No. 5 in the Challenger Global standings.
Closing out the podium and the evening’s qualified rides was Mateus Fabricio (Uruaca, Brazil).
The Brazilian shot out of the gate atop Brown Bomber (Culp Bucking Bulls) for 83 points in the opening round but was bucked off by Hell Storm (Julio Moreno/Bar CB) in a thrilling 3.36 seconds.
Leading a dominant bull pen that allowed just four qualified rides was a trio of dominant animal athletes, all marked 44 points in Round 2.
July (Leffew Bucking bulls) unseated Danny Melvin (Hollister, California) in 2.62 seconds, Dynamite (Evan Matthews) bested Collin Williams (Pocatello, Idaho) in 2.8 seconds and Cyrus (Evan Matthews) ejected William Wright (Wickenburg, Arizona) in 3.44 seconds to tie for the Bull of the Event title.
PBR Challenger Series returns to action in Fort Worth, Texas, with the Stockyard Showcase in Cowtown Coliseum on Thursday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m. CT before a double-header weekend split between Minot, North Dakota for the Minot Y’s Men PBR on Friday, Sept 22 and Saturday, Sept. 23 and the Fairfax Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24.
