DIVINÓPOLIS, Brazil – Sandro Batista won his first career event this past weekend by going 3-for-3 at the PBR Brazil event held at the DivinaExpo in Divinópolis.
The 22-year-old is a rider to keep an eye on during the upcoming PBR Team Series after he recently was signed by the Arizona Ridge Riders last week.
Batista (3-for-3, 262 points) was flawless in Divinópolis. The 2021 Circuito de Rodeio Rancho Primavera (CRP) champion bull rider began the weekend with a 90.5-point effort on Cometa before riding Roda Moinho (87.5 points) and Netflix (84 points). Netflix was the 2019 PBR Brazil Bull of the Finals.
If that was not enough, the second generation bull rider then earned an additional $25,500.00 (Brazilian Real) by riding bonus bull Mexicano to leave the arena with $54,500 (Brazilian Real), which is roughly $11,200 USD.
“I am very happy for this title, it was a dream to be able to compete in the PBR events and the first victory to come like this in an event as big and important as the one in Divinópolis,” Batista told PBR Brazil’s Abner Henrique Therezio. “This is certainly a memorable moment in my career. I hope it's the first of many buckles in the PBR. I'll work hard for others to come.”

This weekend was also the 400th event in PBR Brazil history, and the 10th time PBR Brazil held an event at DivinaExpo.
Batista earned 87 points toward the PBR Brazil standings to move up to No. 2 in the Brazilian rankings. However, Batista, who trails No. 1 Bruno Scaranello by 19 points, is expected to eventually come to the United States later this summer for the PBR Team Series.
Rounding out the Top 5 in Divinópolis was Arthur Antonialle (3-for-3, 259.75 points), Rodolfo Alves (3-for-3, 258 points), Eduardo Matos (2-for-3, 178 points) and Joao Marcelo Santos (2-for-3, 172.25 points).
Reza a Lenda (Pray to Legend) was the top bull of the weekend with a 46.5-point bull score for bucking off Valdenilson Pereira in 2.2 seconds.
