RENO, Nev. – As the dust settled at the third PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event of the 2020 season, the sold-out crowd inside of the Reno Downtown Events Center roared as Jake Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) hoisted the gold buckle high to celebrate his career-first PWVT event win.
Mere hours after his older brother, two-time PBR world champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana), won Round 1 of the Chicago Invitational almost 2,000 miles to the east, the younger Lockwood went a perfect 3-for-3 in Reno to further the family legacy.
Following a Round 1 win on Friday night, the Montana native recorded an 85-point ride aboard Big Jake (CBT 2) in Saturday’s Round 2. As the gate swung open in the championship round, Lockwood fired out of the chutes determined to make the 8 aboard Sledge Hammer (Flip’em Buck’en Bulls/ Knapp). He recorded an 86-point score as the crowd inside the Reno Events Center erupted. The win earned him 43.66 world points and a $6,500 paycheck.
In addition to winning the Reno event, Lockwood has also earned an invite to the upcoming Unleash The Beast Wrangler Long Live Cowboys Classic in Sacramento on Jan. 24-26.
Brazilian rider Joao Henrique Lucas (Bastos, Brazil) finished second, collecting a paycheck for $4,300 along with 28.75 world points. He rode to the runner-up finish compliments of his 87-point ride aboard Cadillac Jack (TDS Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 and 85 points on Gangster of Love (Julio Moreno/ Dallas Schott) in the championship round.
Third place went to fellow countryman Dener Barbosa (Paulo de Faria, Brazil) who, despite a lower than usual score on Sign Here (Tom Baker Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 for 76 points, held tight to his place on the leaderboard throughout the night. Later in the championship round, Barbosa conquered Party Dawg (JQH Bucking Bulls - Skip & Elaine Jones) for 86 points. For his efforts he collected $2,700 and 15.41 world points.
Canadian Shay Marks (Sunny Brook, Canada) finished fourth, backed by an 86-point effort on Cido (Rockin R Bucking Bulls) in the opening round of the Reno Rumble’s final night. After an 85.5-point ride aboard Kmag YoYo (CBT 2) in the championship round, Marks leaves Reno with $2,200 and 12 world points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) who, despite not making the 8 aboard LR-653 (Bob Whisnant/ Skip & Linda Johnston) in Saturday’s Round 2, made his way into the championship round courtesy of his Friday night ride aboard Jake (Barker Bulls LLC) for 84.5 points. His matchup against Canton Tornado (Tom Baker Bucking Bulls) in the championship round proved successful, netting him 86 point. For his efforts, Campbell received $1,440 and 8.66 world points.
Just as heated as the competition for PBR world standings points was the competition for the 2020 Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge.
Earning a combined score of 278.82 points courtesy of trips recorded by Yoga Pants, Fat Boy and Wired Up, Rafter B Bucking Bulls won the first stop of the season, collecting a paycheck for $25,000.
CBT 2 finished second to earn $13,000, while Topline Steel Buildings / Barrett Bucking Stock was third, collecting $10,000.
Also earning a check was fourth-place JQH Bucking Bulls, earning $7,000, and fifth-place Flip’em Buck’en Bulls/ Knapp, collecting $5,000.
Fans can relive all the action from the PBR PWVT’s Reno Rumble on Sunday, January 12 at 8 a.m. ET on-demand at RidePass.com or via the mobile app.
The Velocity Tour next travels to Denver, Colorado, for the Denver PBR Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show, on January 13-15.
