KINGSVILLE, Texas — Returning to the iconic King Ranch in south Texas where his brother once worked, Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, TX) knocked down two clutch rides to lead Team Boot Barn to victory at the 2022 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Cowboys for a Cause charitable event.
Campbell, a member of the Carolina Cowboys in the PBR Team Series, rode Dow “The Banker” (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) away from his hand for 81.75 points in Round 1, gritting out the ride after nearly being yanked down 3 seconds into the required 8. In the winner-take-all championship round, he was mechanically flawless and marked a round-high 88.25 points on Happy Days (United Pro Rodeo) to lead Team Boot Barn to the win.
Campbell has now ridden four consecutive bulls at all levels of competition as the Carolina Cowboys head into the inaugural Cowboy Days homestand (September 9-11) at LJVM Coliseum in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
“I’m just getting started; I finally got my stride,” Campbell said. “This ranch is legendary. I love coming down to King Ranch to ride bucking bulls.”
Braidy Randolph (Jonestown, PA) of Team Kubota was the event’s MVP with an aggregate score of 172 points. The Texas Rattlers’ rider, who came into the event with one qualified ride on his last six bulls, stayed centered on Game Day (United Pro Rodeo) for 84.5 points in Round 1 and then kept his feet moving to stay in rhythm atop Listen Linda (United Pro Rodeo / New Star) for 87.5 points in the championship round, the top score of the round until Campbell’s trip aboard Happy Days.
“I haven’t been getting the job done in my regular season events,” Randolph said. “It feels really good to come and get ‘em rode to help the team.”
Despite the success of Campbell and Randolph, the bulls were not in a charitable mood at the fundraising event, losing to only those two cowboys during the two-round event at King Ranch – a 169-year-old, 825,000-acre establishment known as “the birthplace of ranching.”
Cowboys for a Cause 2022 featured eight teams of three bull riders competing in a two-round, non-points event. After the three riders on each team attempted one bull in the first round of competition, the top three teams – Team Kubota, Team Boot Barn, and Team South Point – advanced to the championship round for one more bull. By virtue of Campbell’s championship- round, winning ride, Team Boot Barn was declared event champion in the winner-take-all finish.
Bull riders selected by coaches in the PBR Team Series, a new league of eight teams that launched in late July heading into a championship in November, represented: Boot Barn (Carolina Cowboys), Kubota (Texas Rattlers), Lucas Oil (Oklahoma Freedom), South Point Hotel Casino and Spa (Austin Gamblers), Stillhouse Vodka (Nashville Stampede), Union Home Mortgage (Arizona Ridge Riders), Wrangler (Kansas City Outlaws), and ZipRecruiter (Missouri Thunder).

King Ranch made a charitable donation of $50,000, supporting conservation and sustainability efforts across the State of Texas, including a gift to the TSCRA (Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assoc.) The donation to TSCRA will be distributed to multiple local and rural fire departments that helped landowners fight wildfires across Texas earlier this year.
