Austin Gamblers: 252.75
Ariat Texas Rattlers: 168.5
The No. 1 Austin Gamblers again looked virtually unstoppable in putting up three qualified rides to defeat the No. 8 Ariat Texas Rattlers in the final game of Saturday night’s PBR Team Series Gambler Days.
Starting off the game was Ariat Texas Rattlers’ Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil), who earned a re-ride opportunity later in the game. Bringing in a 4-for-4 streak when leading off for the Gamblers, Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas), once again put his team on the scoreboard in the first frame on Gangster Bones (TNT Bucking Bulls). Mitchell was marked 79.75 points, but Head Coach Michael Gaffney turned down the re-ride opportunity to go up one bull on the Rattlers.
Four scoreless outs would make up the third and fourth frames. Entering the fifth frame, the Ariat Texas Rattlers looked to earn their first qualified ride of the night. Brady Oleson (Blackfoot, Idaho) took to the chutes against Do Dat Eddie (Universal Pro Rodeo/Rachel & Dustin Powell), but was quickly bucked off after a short 1.26 seconds and would later earn the opportunity to ride again. With two re-rides on deck for the Rattlers, the Gamblers looked to keep the lead and quickly responded with an 85-point ride from Griffin Smeltzer (Claresholm, Canada) on Iron Side (Universal Pro Rodeo).
Entering the fourth frame, with the score at 164.95-0, a fire was lit inside the Texas Rattlers, eager to take on their cross-state rivals in their home arena. 47-year-old Ednei Caminhas (Indaiatuba, Brazil) dominated bovine opponent War Daddy (TNT Bucking Bulls) for 85.25 points, and the Rattlers were down only one bull.
Up next for the Gamblers was No. 1 draft pick Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil). Exploding out of the chutes, Leme rode Ninja Cowboy (Universal Pro Rodeo) for a solid 88 points, making the score 252.95 – 82.25. With the Gamblers still up two bulls, Vieira prepared for the Rattlers’ first re-ride opportunity and crucial ride aboard Twisted Feather (Blake Sharp/Michael Flord/Cain Kobert). He was bucked off at 2.35 seconds, securing the Gamblers the win.
With one re-ride remaining, Oleson conquered Chanler’s Mule (Universal Pro Rodeo) for 83.25 points, making the final score 252.75-168.5. The Gamblers remain unbeaten in their home arena and have now won eight games in a row, a league record.
As Gambler Days continues, the Austin Gamblers (9-3) will look to keep the top spot with their third consecutive win when they take on the Carolina Cowboys (7-5). The Ariat Texas Rattlers (3-9) will look to have their first win when they play the Nashville Stampede (3-9).
