An appreciative crowd filled Blaisdell Arena on Friday night for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Cheeseburger Island Style Hawaii All Star Challenge presented by Amp'd Mobile. The enthusiastic fans witnessed the PBR's best competitors - the top 15 ranked men and 5 fan favorites as determined by a recent poll - ride two bulls each in rounds one and two of the PBR' s debut in Honolulu.
Explosive rides resulted in rewarding scores for 17 of the 20 riders, five of whom covered two out of two bulls, leaving Jeremy Taylor (Big Cabin, Okla.) on top of the heap after two rounds of competition. Although he bucked away with the win in Round One of Friday's competition, two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) was injured when one of Taylor Made Bucking Bulls' Chili's hooves landed on the lower half of his left leg. Shivers left the arena on a stretcher and was rushed to a nearby hospital where it was determined that he suffered a break of his fibula and tibia. He is expected to undergo surgery within the next 24 hours to insert a rod into his tibia. Shivers will be absent from competition for approximately 3 to 6 months.
