ST. LOUIS ― The Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series returns to St. Louis for its 17th visit as the Scottrade Center hosts the St. Louis Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires. During this three-day event, the world’s Top 35 bull riders will be riding the world’s rankest bulls for the more than $30,000 event purse and valuable points needed to become the PBR World Champion.
Bull riding action begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. Tickets are available at the Scottrade Center box office, www.Ticketmaster.com and by telephone at (800) 745-3000.
The PBR has awarded more than $500,000 dollars to winning riders throughout the event’s 17 years in St. Louis, including four former PBR World Champions: Adriano Moraes (1997, 1998, 2004), Chris Shivers (2000, 2001), Justin McBride (2003, 2005) and Guilherme Marchi (2011).
The field in St. Louis will feature Missouri native L.J. Jenkins, young guns Stormy Wing and Chase Outlaw, as well as former World Champions: Silvano Alves (2011-2012), Renato Nunes (2010), Marchi (2008) and Mike Lee (2004).
2013 St. Louis event champion Fabiano Vieira is also scheduled to compete alongside veterans Sean Willingham and Billy Robinson.
All Top 35 bull riders will ride one bull each in Round 1 on Friday, Round 2 on Saturday and Round 3 on Sunday. After Round 3, the Top 15 riders will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round for one more ride and a chance at the event title.
Shotgun Red (JK Rodeo Co.) awaits Marchi, the current No. 1 bull rider in the world, in Round 1 on Friday. Shotgun Red has made just one out this season and was ridden by Lee, who is second in the world standings, while in New York City for 79 points.
Jenkins will face off against Copper Star (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Lacey Berger). Copper Star made his debut on the BFTS in Chicago earlier this season, where Pistol Robinson came close to riding him before being bucked off in 7.73 seconds.
Vieira will face Hart Cattle Company’s Bad Black on Friday, who first appeared on the BFTS in Oklahoma City this year when Austin Meier attempted to ride him. In that matchup, Bad Black was able to unseat Meier in 2.97 seconds.
