PUEBLO, Colo. – The second go-round of bull riding kicked off at the 2018 National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Austin Herrera took advantage.

The Soap Lake, Washington, native covered two bulls on the fourth day of competition, not just winning Performance 7 and beginning go-round 2 with a victory, but moving into first place in the aggregate as well.

Herrera placed second in Performance 6 with 68 points, behind Patterson Starcher’s 79 points and ahead of Adam Kezar, who posted a 48-point ride. He then scored 81 points in Performance 7 to win that round, bringing his total score to 149 points on two bulls.

The four qualified rides in Performance 7 were rounded out by Dawson Gleaves (70 points), Casey Roberts (69 points) and Starcher (67 points). Those four currently lead the standings in Go-round 2.

Performance 7 was the first of the second go-round.

Herrera and Starcher are the only two riders thus far to have earned more than one qualified ride. Starcher sits second in aggregate with 146 points. Cole Skender is in third place with an 86-point ride, followed by Chris Wilson with 83 points.

The Top 20 riders in the aggregate will move on to the final round on Saturday.
